KSB joins Pro Bono Declaration17/12/08 / News
Law firm Kocián Šolc Balaštík joined the Pro Bono Declaration within the framework of the Pro Bono Centre that aims to support the development of pro bono legal services provided by Czech attorneys.
The Pro Bono Centre, a project by the Public Interest Lawyers Association, exercises efforts to increase the affordability of legal services for social groups placed at a disadvantage and for strengthening the legal capacity for protection of human rights and other public interests. Free work by attorneys, whether performed for people with low income or aiming to achieve other generally beneficial targets, is designated as “pro bono publico” or “pro bono”.
KSB is convinced performance of advocacy naturally includes provision of free legal consultancy to individuals and groups placed at a disadvantage within the framework of its possibilities and capabilities, to address issues of compliance with human rights and the legal state concept and to exercise efforts to comply with professional ethics.
Over the past years KSB attorneys have done substantial pro bono work in the Czech Republic (such as consultancy to non-profit creating sectors, involvement in the legislative process, etc.) and internationally (such as participation in projects organized by international organizations, aimed at protection of human rights and the legal state principles).
