Webinar “The Future of Batteries in the EU” for the Czech Battery Cluster.

On 22 October 2024, KSB attorneys Tomáš Sequens and Petra Mirovská, in cooperation with the REMA Battery collection system, delivered an expert webinar for the Czech Battery Cluster (Český bateriový klastr, z.s.), which brings together major players in the battery industry. Participants of the webinar, which was entitled "The future of batteries in the EU: digital passport, new standards and responsibility", were introduced to new developments in European battery legislation, in particular the obligations associated with the creation of a digital passport for batteries, new standards for battery eco-design and performance, as well as producer responsibility issues, including the concept of "second-life" batteries and battery recycling.

The Digital Product Passport is a key element of the new European legislation, which aims to increase the transparency and traceability of products throughout their life cycle. Manufacturers of light means of transport batteries, electric vehicles batteries and industrial batteries with a capacity greater than 2 kWh will be required to create and manage a digital passport for each battery placed on the market or in service. The passport will contain all relevant information relating to the battery and will facilitate subsequent recycling of the batteries, thereby promoting the development of a circular economy. The digital passport will cover not only batteries but also a diverse range of other products, such as electrical appliances and equipment, clothing, footwear, cleaning products, paint, chemicals, furniture, ICT products, etc.

The webinar fits in and builds on KSB's activities in the field of the circular economy, which together with the concept of sustainability forms one of the core elements of advanced countries in the 21st century.

KŠB assisted Seyfor with the extension of its financing provided by Raiffeisenbank, Tatra banka and, newly, Slovenská sporiteľňa.

The KŠB team provided legal advice to its long-standing client Seyfor in connection with the continuation and expansion of its syndicated financing.
