KSB recognized as Leading Law Firm of 2009 in company law and competition law

In the second year of the Leading Law Firm of the Year Competition organized by EPRAVO.CZ under the auspices of the Czech Bar Association, law firm Kocián Šolc Balaštík was awarded the leading law firm in the fields of company law and competition law for 2009.

KSB defended the title of leading law firm from last year’s victory – when it was awarded the Leading Czech Law Firm in the category of corporate law in the first year of the competition. This category has been extended to include competition law for 2009. In addition to the title in the aforementioned category, KSB was nominated among the top three law firms in the category of mergers and acquisitions.

The results of the Leading Law Firm of 2009 Competition were announced on 9 November at a gala evening at the InterContinental Praha Hotel, which was attended by the Czech Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Czech Bar Association, representatives of major Czech and foreign law firms active in the Czech Republic and other prominent figures of the Czech legal scene.

The award was accepted on behalf of KSB by its partners whose principal specializations include the above-mentioned fields – for economic competition, Pavel Dejl; for mergers and acquisitions, Dagmar Dubecká; and for corporate law, Petr Kasík. All three expressed their gratitude to parties who participated in the evaluation, which was provided by competing law firms, by representatives of major firms active in the Czech Republic and by consultants of EPRAVO.CZ. The KSB partners expressed appreciation for the work of all members of KSB whose day-to-day activities contribute to the success of the law firm.

This year, KSB was also awarded the title Leading Czech Law Firm by the UK rating agency Who’s Who Legal, which announced KSB as the Leading Law Firm of 2009 in the Czech Republic. Other international institutions performing assessments of the legal services market, such as Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, IFLR1000 or Legal500, consistently rank KSB at the top of their lists, in particular in the fields of mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, competition law and litigation or restructuring and insolvency.

Suburbanization Trends and Sustainable Commuting: Will the Construction Act Amendment Change the Landscape?

The discussion surrounding the current proposal to amend the Construction Act (Parliamentary Print 67) has moved to the committee stage in the Chamber of Deputies following its first reading. The primary declared objective is the acceleration of construction, particularly regarding residential buildings. The shortage of affordable housing remains a pressing issue in major cities, both in the Czech Republic and abroad, giving rise to the pervasive trend of suburbanization. This raises the question: does the proposed amendment truly have the ambition to reverse this trend, and will an increase in housing construction alone suffice?
