KSB Advises Green Gas DPB on Coal Mine Methane Supply Contracts
Coal mine methane is a mixture of gases released spontaneously in areas affected by coal mining which is extracted in a controlled manner from the underground areas of active and closed coal mines. The primary component of mine gas is methane, a greenhouse gas whose negative impact on the climate is more than 25 times greater than that of CO2.
Green Gas DPB is a major producer and processor of mine gas in the Czech Republic, specifically in the Ostrava-Karviná coal basin. It primarily processes coal mine methane to generate electricity in cogeneration units.
Green Gas DPB's operations in the field of coal mine methane extraction and use are in line with the policy of the European Commission, which recently adopted new Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 on reducing methane emissions as part of the implementation of its key energy and climate policies the Green Deal and RePower EU (the new EU methane regulation is intended to reduce harmful emissions from fossil fuels in Europe and abroad (europa.eu).
