KSB Advises on the Sale of Litostroj Group

The team led by senior associate Jakub Porod, supported by partner Martin Krejčí, junior associate Jakub Mehl and Slovenian law firm ODI, advised Energo-Pro Group on the sale of turbine manufacturer Litostroj. The buyer is the Wikov Industry engineering group, which manufactures mechanical gearboxes and gears for the wind- and hydro-power industry, the petrochemical industry and rolling stock.

Litostroj is one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of turbines for hydroelectric power plants, with annual sales of around CZK 2 billion, and is a competitor of US group GE, Japan's Hitachi Mitsubishi and Germany’s Voith.

In addition to the Czech Republic, the transaction includes Slovenia, where Litostroj manufactures turbines and pumps, as well as Canada and the United States, which are key markets for Litostroj, where Litostroj Hydro and Litostroj US operate.

KSB advised the client on the structuring of the transaction and was in charge of drafting and negotiating the acquisition agreements.

Suburbanization Trends and Sustainable Commuting: Will the Construction Act Amendment Change the Landscape?

The discussion surrounding the current proposal to amend the Construction Act (Parliamentary Print 67) has moved to the committee stage in the Chamber of Deputies following its first reading. The primary declared objective is the acceleration of construction, particularly regarding residential buildings. The shortage of affordable housing remains a pressing issue in major cities, both in the Czech Republic and abroad, giving rise to the pervasive trend of suburbanization. This raises the question: does the proposed amendment truly have the ambition to reverse this trend, and will an increase in housing construction alone suffice?
