Martin Šolc Receives “Market Maker” Award for His Contribution to the Czech Legal Market07/06/17 / News

Martin Šolc was the winner of the Market Maker award for the Czech Republic at the 2017 General Counsel Summit in Warsaw for his significant contribution to the Czech legal market. In addition to receiving this first-ever award from CEE Legal Matters, Martin - a founding partner of Kocián Šolc Balaštík (KŠB) - is also the first representative from Central and Eastern Europe to lead the International Bar Association (IBA), the largest worldwide organization of lawyers.

Held annually by the publishers of established legal magazine CEE Legal Matters, the GC Summit is a meeting of top lawyers from the entire CEE region. The Market Maker award was given at the summit for the first time this year. Martin received the award for the Czech Republic and was represented at the Gala Dinner at the Warsaw Marriott Hotel on 1 June by KŠB partner Christian Blatchford.

“It is truly an honour to have received this award, even more so since this year marks the first time it has ever been given. As a practitioner in the legal industry for 37 years, I have always strived to carry out my profession to the best of my abilities. And although the purpose of my work is obviously not to collect awards, one cannot help but be pleased to receive praise from those besides his or her clients,” said Martin.

Martin Šolc has long been one of the most respected lawyers in the Czech Republic. Specializing mainly in mergers and acquisitions, and corporate restructurings and corporate law, he has been a lawyer since 1980 and is one of KŠB’s founding partners. Martin has been involved in the IBA for more than 25 years, was its Vice-President from 2015 and became its President this year. From 2007 to 2011, he was awarded the title of Lawyer of the Year in commercial law, and international ratings agencies for legal services have designated him as a leading lawyer in the area of corporate law and mergers and acquisitions in the Czech Republic.
